1955年春天，中国政府受到亚非会议五个发起国的邀请，决定派出以周恩来总理为团长的中国政府代表团参加在印度尼西亚的万隆市举行的亚非会议。台湾特务得到情报开始密谋策划谋害周总理，周恩来总理受到缅甸总理吴努的邀请先期经昆明去缅甸首都仰光参加六国总理的会晤。这时从香港启德机场起飞的中国政府租用的印度“克什米尔公主号”飞机，被台湾特务密谋在飞往印尼途中炸毁，机上十一名中国代表团的先遣人员和外国记者全部遇难，举世震惊。面对纷纭复杂的国际形式和台湾特务的破坏，周恩来不顾个人的安危，决定按原计划继续乘坐印度飞机“空中霸王号”飞往印尼。印度尼亚的华侨们怀着极大的爱国热情为欢迎祖国的总理和代表团的到来做着各项筹备工作，以侨领麦公为首的华侨联合会为代表团捐车捐物，并且组成了各种服务小组。当周总理一行冒着重重危险抵达雅加达玛腰兰机场时，受到了当地群众和华侨的热烈欢迎，整个机场被围得水泄不通。
　　亚非会议的召开，是二次大战后众多刚刚从殖民主义的统治下独立起来的亚非国家首脑的第一次聚会。美国政府也派出了一个庞大的所谓记者代表团参加了这次会议。在复杂的国际政治背景下，大家怀着良好的愿望而来，却又意见很不统一，一些代表对共产主义心存疑虑，提出苏联共产主义是一种新的殖民主义，也提出了华侨的双重国籍问题所可能造成的威胁。会议面临着失败的边缘。中国代表团的书面发言已经印发给大家，原来不准备再作大会发言，但面对这种情况，周恩来总理临时请求大会发言，他的“中国代表团是来讲团结的，不是来吵架的：中国代表团是来求同的，不是来立异的……”语惊四座。他的无比的真诚打消了与会代表的疑虑，也使亚非国家找到了共同团结的基础。在万隆会议期间，台湾特务组织了一个二十八人的敢死队铁血团，密谋杀害周总理，在印尼政府和华侨的保卫下他们的阴谋未能得逞。亚非会议期间，周恩来总理日理万机，利用一切机会广交朋友，七天时间他只睡了13个小时。经过周恩来、陈毅为首的中国政府代表团的努力，终于团结亚非代表确立了“和平共处五项原则”，使之成为以后国与国之间交往的基本准则，同时，也确立了新中国在纷纭复杂的国际政治舞台上不动摇的地位。

　　1949年，解放军某卫生院队长高庆祥，受生命垂危的徐团长之托，去小山村接徐团长的女儿小燕(blog)。谁知在横岭镇，小燕突然失踪，后被人杀害，死时手中攥着一个糖猴，高庆祥痛不欲生。回到卫生院后，他在死不瞑目的徐团长面前庄重发誓：一定要抓住杀害小燕的凶手，为孩子报仇。当晚，高庆祥的婚礼也不欢而散。
　　两年后的肃反中，横岭镇抓获了一名血债累累的反革命分子张金华，嚣张地称小燕也是她杀害的。高庆祥赶到并在他家中搜出了吹糖人的工具，让他当面吹出糖猴。谁知在张金华被枪毙的第二天，又发生了和当年小燕一样的惨案，又一个女孩被先奸后杀。在案发现场也发现了一个糖猴，这个糖猴比张金华吹的更复杂，肚子里有糖稀，孩子们都叫它“猴拉稀”，只有吹糖猴的高手才能吹得出来。张金华的老婆和儿子小山找上门来，要求把案情弄清楚。
　　卫生队就要进城了，高庆祥却要求复员留在了横岭镇派出所，他要实现自己的誓言(听歌)，抓住凶手，保证这一方山村的平安。但事隔久远，线索全无，二十年来破案无望，爱人无奈和他离了婚，高庆祥无怨无悔，始终盯着嫌疑人——疯疯傻傻的赵松林。
　　1972年，自以为逃过法网的嫌疑犯赵松林再次作案，用糖猴把女孩荆花骗上山，正要下手，幸亏高庆祥及时赶来。案犯赵松林仓皇出逃，高庆祥全国各地追寻。
　　转眼高庆祥已年国古稀，被送进养老院，对五十年无结果的追凶历程他百感交集，以为抓获凶手已成泡影，谁知听说养老院还有一个叫高庆祥的老人，他才发现这个和他同名同性的人，正是他找寻五十年的凶手赵松林。可此时已无人能证明赵松林的真实身份。高庆祥找来吹糖人的工具，引得赵松林吹出当年在犯罪现场多次出现的罪证——“猴拉稀”，高庆祥死死抓住赵松林的手腕，半个世纪的夙愿终于实现。

　　A bit of color for once, all the better to see the red flags with, not to mention the obvious aerial file footage of Warsaw. The story concerns Jozef Malesa, the mason or bricklayer of the title. He was once the darling of the party, the son of two old party activists, a worker of heroic reputation, his own commitment to The Movement unquestioned. He was chosen to be destined for great things, specially educated and pushed forward to positions of responsibility in the Party. Eventually he decides, because of the ethical pressures which he feels from the obstructionism of the bureaucracy from above, he asks to return to be a simple bricklayer. He is disturbed with the way the Party deals with people, especially their lack of direct contact. He thinks workers know better than the leadership many times but that's not the way power flows. He is uncomfortable with the compromises to his idealism. He remains committed to social justice and joins his friends for the May Day rally where his comfort and confidence in his place in society cause him to defer to no man, certainly no rat faced men in overcoats with red armbands. His great pleasure in life moreover is laying brick. He finds the work satisfying and fulfilling which is why he was such an obviously superior worker in the first place.

　　Scared of life and lacking the courage to be himself, Ludovico lives hidden away in his grandmother's old apartment. One night, the wickedness of the world goes to visit him in the form of Jack, a boy who is Ludovico's age but has the opposite character: hard, determined, perhaps criminal. The forced cohabitation of two human beings who couldn't seem more different from one another turns into an initiation rite to adulthood, the discovery of their true and respective personalities. And when the harsh reality that is mercilessly stalking them appears to present the bill, they will have to face it, bolstered by a new awareness and unhoped-for courage.

　　Due to some common interests between German and Russian aristocracy ( the Russians even had aristocrats in their past not to mention they had an Empress called Catherine the Great, as great as this German count's heiresses… ), it is not strange that this Teutonic count has understood and even enjoyed Herr S. M. Eisenstein's "Staroye I Novoye".
　　It is not very usual that for the aristocracy to enjoy Bolshevist films full of proletarian demands that put private property at risk or as it happens in this case, a film about the Communist Party's policy on the subject of the collectivization of the Soviet agriculture. Normally this would be perfect gibberish for this German count, but thanks to Herr Eisenstein 's greatness and directorial talent, the hardships of the heroine of the film, Dame Marfa ( Dame Marfa Lapkina ) breached even the thick aristocratic Schloss walls.
　　And that's one of the first remarkable aspects of this oeuvre; in spite of the political subject of the film, the powerful images and lyricism ( astonishing and beautiful shot compositions ), especially during the first part of the movie, preserve the artistic merits entirely while serving a propaganda purpose. The second remarkable aspect of the film is the dichotomy between the old and new, the fight to improve the lot of Dame Marfa and her countrymen. There are many discussions because it is not easy even in Russia to change ancient and conservative customs. There are superb metaphors and social criticism ( illiteracy, bureaucracy, religiosity ) which perfectly fit the film, and last but not least, "Staroye I Novoye", is a kind of archaic documentary about ancient customs established deeply in old Russia, those ones that our heroine must fight against. And there is also a lot about agriculture ( very enlightening for this German count), especially about harvesting and how to fatten Russian cows or pigs ( literally, no pun here… ).
　　Herr Eisenstein had to bear during the last era of his film career, unbelievable censorship and mutilation of his work, as happens with "Staroye I Novoye". The film was reedited and Eisenstein accused of sympathizing with Trostky's policies but fortunately the film was restored and showed by the German-frenchified t.v. channel "ARTE", natürlich!, including an evocative music score by Herr Taras Bujewski, that fits superbly Herr Eisenstein primal artistic interests.

　　Born in a small town in the countryside surrounding Pistoia, Adriana is an attractive young girl who counts on using her looks to go places in the entertainment business in Rome. Moving to the capital, she works first of all in a hairdressing salon, then in a small cinema where she manages to get a job working in fancy dress. Meantime, she socializes with young men of the upper middle classes, who take her to parties and out on the town with the sole aim of taking advantage of her. Adriana knows their game, but plays along. In the meantime, she meets an agent called Cianfanna, a modest money-grubber who introduces her to a journalist friend of his so he can write an article on her. Having thus launched her career in advertising, Adriana decides to go home to visit her parents. Once home, however, she is distraught to learn of the death of her sister. Returning to Rome, she takes acting lessons, but during one lesson she suddenly faints: she is pregnant, with no idea of who the father of her child is. The days go by and Adriana tries to forget about her pregnancy, while sleeping with an increasingly long list of lovers. 　　阿龍因為簽六合彩中獎組頭付不出現金而以機票抵帳，一夥人前往紐約遊覽，在中國餐廳吃飯時，發現失竊的門神出現在餐廳內，故鄉小廟的門神已經成為異國餐廳的裝飾品，眾人集資將門神買下運回台灣。
　　阿狗因為受不了老闆娘的色誘而與她發生關係之際，老闆回來與他發生扭打，情急之下阿狗拿出手槍威嚇老闆並逃離工廠。老闆報警後，警方認定阿狗為窮凶惡極之徒予以通緝。阿狗躲到阿輝家頂樓鴿子籠時，警方大隊人馬開到圍捕，在強力火力逼迫之下，脆弱的阿輝拿手槍瘋狂的向警方開火，一時間槍聲大作，輝、明受傷，阿狗中槍身亡。

　　司机金巴在路上撞死了一只羊，决意超度此羊；杀手金巴即将找到杀父仇人，准备报仇雪恨。阴差阳错，杀手金巴搭上了司机金巴的卡车。于是，两个叫金巴的男人的命运便神秘地联系在了一起，一段惊心动魄的旅程开始……

　　In mid-’80s Romania, a gifted mathematician is under investigation for plans to publish a new theorem by smuggling it overseas. He’s one in a network of academics struggling beneath the oppressive dictatorship in this gripping tale of science and secrecy.

　　Siddartha (Dhritiman Chatterjee) is forced to discontinue his medical studies due to unexpected and brutal death of his father. He has to now find a job in stead. In one job interview, he is asked to name the most significant world event in the last ten years. His reply is 'the plain human courage shown by the people of Vietnam', instead of the expected - man landing on moon. The interviewer asks is he is a communist. Needles to say that he does not get the job.
　　He reaches a coffee shop where he is offered to work for the communist party. When he does not show any interest the party leader tells him about an opening for a medical representative. To escape from the heat and have a snooze, he goes in to a cinema. As a government propaganda newsreel is being shown before the feature, a bomb explodes in the cinema hall. In the stampede that follows, Siddartha, breaks his watch. He goes to a watchmaker but he cannot afford the repairs.
　　Waiting to cross the road, he notices a sexy girl. He drifts back to his days as a medical student in a flashback. The professor is explaining anatomy of female breast. Many flashbacks and dreams occur to Siddartha through the film.
　　On his way to hostel, he has an encounter with some hippies. Along with an ex-classmate, he goes out to see a porn film but to their disappointment, the film turns out to be not-so-pornographic.
　　In such constant wandering in a Calcutta, disintegrated relationships with his sister and a Naxalite (militant communist) brother, his friendship with Keya is only thing that keeps him sane.
　　Keya is a simple girl. They enjoy each other's company but they cannot make any commitment to each other due to the circumstances.
　　After yet another attempt at a job interview, Siddartha leaves the big city to take a modest job of a salesman in a far off small town. He writes to Keya that he still cherishes their relationship. And that he has heard that bird call again but this time it is for real, and not his mind. After completing the letter, he comes out to the balcony of his modest room. The bird calls again. He also hears the sombre chants of a funeral procession. As he turns to the camera, the picture is frozen.
　　This is the first film of the Calcutta Trilogy. The other two were and Seemabaddha (Company Limited, 1971) and Jana Aranya (The Middle Man, 1975). All the three films study the effect the big city of Calcutta has on the educated youth and the price it extracts from them.
　　The seventies were a difficult period for India and West Bengal. The Corruption was rampant the Naxalite movement had created havoc in Calcutta. In fact, they had turned parts of Calcutta into 'liberated zones'. By the time the Naxalite movement died down, in 1975, Mrs. Indira Gandhi (then, Prime Minister of India) suppressed the fundamental rights and declared "Emergency" for her own political survival. Her son, Sanjay Gandhi became a dictator of sorts without any official designation. The opposition leaders were thrown into prisons.
　　About his social responsibilities as a filmmaker, in an interview with Cineaste magazine, Ray commented, "You can see my attitude in The Adversary where you have two brothers. The younger brother is a Naxalite. There is no doubt that the elder brother admires the younger brother for his bravery and convictions. The film is not ambiguous about that. As a filmmaker, however, I was more interested in the elder brother because he is the vacillating character. As a psychological entity, as a human being with doubts, he is a more interesting character to me. The younger brother has already identified himself with a cause. That makes him part of a total attitude and makes him unimportant. The Naxalite movement takes over. He, as a person, becomes insignificant."
　　In a letter to Seton in 1970, Ray wrote that Pratidwandi was the most provocative film he had made till then. The film is said to have evoked extreme reactions. "People either loved the film or hated it", Dhritiman Chatterjee told Andrew Robinson, Ray's biographer.

　　一晃眼几十年过去，米哈伊洛依然没有能够走阴影中走出来。如今的他在一家琴行里教授音乐和钢琴，自始至终都过着形单影只的生活。一天，一个名叫奥尔吉查（安妮卡·多布拉 Anica Dobra 饰）的姑娘出现在了米哈伊洛的生命里，她的出现给米哈伊洛一潭死水的生活带来了很多的意外和惊喜，可是，当米哈伊洛和奥尔吉查越走越近时，他那可怕的过去也开始卷土重来。

　　影片改编自出生于法国的波兰诗人、作家爱德华•斯塔胡拉（Edward Stachura；1937年8月18日~1979年7月24日）发表于1971年的小说《执斧人或冬季的森林人》（Siekierezada albo zima leśnych ludzi）。
　　敏感的年轻诗人雅内克不能再接受口是心非的人和虚伪的世界，已经在世界上找不到自己的位置。他很想能有一个与他熟知的世界根本不同的地方来充实他的生活，于是他应了林务招聘，将他的全部财产装在袋子里背在身后，到深山老林当了一名冬季临时伐木工。林场里空气清新，采伐工人虽性格不一，但跟城里人不同个个坦诚友好，他很快和他们交上了朋友。他也越来越相信“苹果树枝会在纯洁的土地上和心灵里双开花”（他的人生哲理）。尽管每个晚上都要被爱情创伤的噩梦惊醒，他还是盼望在这个纯朴的劳动者的圈子里也许会找到他所期待的东西，直到发生了改变了他想法的一件事——
　　一个老实巴交的执斧人借着喝高了伏特加，用伐木的斧子砍翻了小酒馆的餐桌，以发泄妻子对他不忠的不满。
　　这件事触痛了他的神经，他决定告别林场。途中，自从来到森林里白天不再出现的幻觉又重新浮现在了他的脑海，只是这次不同，爱的天使犹如一具带着面具的美丽僵尸。
　　一辆呼啸进山的窄轨火车迎面驶来。周游世界的机会终于来临!他扔下装在袋子里的全部家当，只身一人去一个比他所有生活过的地方更加冷冰冰白皑皑的世界去追求他的人生哲学。
